Prophylaxis

Professional prophylaxis in Berlin

Dental health through individual intensive cleaning
In our own prophylaxis department, teeth and gums are professionally protected against new infections by trained dental hygienists using our concept of intensive cleaning with deep action.

Several studies have shown that dental health can be maintained by regular individual prophylaxis in 99 percent of patients over a period of 20 years (e.g. Axelsson, Lindhe & Nyström, 1991).

Maintaining your teeth and the periodontium is of considerable importance for your quality of life, particularly in view of the steadily increasing life expectancy. Stable teeth in old age mean a great deal more enjoyment of life. Prophylaxis is not just prophylaxis - time and thoroughness are decisive aspects for lasting treatment success.

FAQs on prophylaxis

Prophylaxis at the dentist includes all preventive measures to maintain dental health. Above all, this includes professional teeth cleaning (PZR), in which hard and soft plaque and bacteria are thoroughly removed - even in hard-to-reach areas. In addition, the gums, interdental spaces and any existing restorations are checked. The aim is to effectively prevent tooth decay, periodontitis and tooth loss.
For most adults, prophylaxis or professional tooth cleaning is recommended once or twice a year. If there is an increased risk of gum inflammation, periodontitis or dentures, shorter intervals may also be advisable. Your dentist in Berlin will advise you individually on the optimum frequency to maintain your dental health in the long term.
The cost of professional teeth cleaning is usually between 80 and 120 euros, depending on the amount of work involved and the practice. Statutory health insurance companies do not usually cover the costs in full, but do offer partial subsidies. Many supplementary dental insurances reimburse the PZR as part of the prophylaxis. It is worth asking your insurer in advance.
